Desolation

Desolation Description- You and your three other group members are stuck in the desert ruins of a past civilization. You are trying to reach salvation in the sanctuary.  You each have advantages and disadvantages that play a factor in your chances for survival.  Resources are scarce and you will encounter random events that could help or hurt you on your journey.  Completing objectives, and using your abilities and resources wisely is key to survival. Can you uncover all the secrets Desolation holds?

Desolation's Theme- Desolation is a game whose aim is to illustrate how climate change and environmental ruin effect people in different class and economic positions. This is an important narrative that is commonly missing from current talks about climate change. We do this by creating disparities at the beginning of the game among characters who have more or less resource cards, and by also creating systemic disparities within the game mechanics (EX. Character A and Character D and effected differently by events). The game playing experience is less fun when players do not work together as a way to punish the greedy and encourage collaboration. We took the theme of ruin and created a world that has been ruined by climate change. We also have characters traverse the desolate environment containing actual ruins, and players also listen to archival audio pieces from the past to put the pieces together of how the world became this way.
